Joseph Rutland as Kes - in Stacey Gregg's Scorch

Scorch - at LIPA's Willy Russell Studio

Stacey Gregg's Scorch tells the story of first love though the eyes of a gender-curious teen, and is narrated by a teenage character called Kes ('like the kid on the front of that Ken Loach film'), who, though female by birth, has a developing identification with male characters in videogames and movies. When Kes meets Jules online, and the latter believes that Kes is a boy, the two start a relationship. When Jules discovers the truth about Kes, it unleashes a whirlwind of confusion for Kes, and indeed everyone else.

Scorch was originally written as a one person play, but was adapted so that my entire year could each take the part of Kes. The currently active Kes wearing a red cap.

It had many people in it

I was ace.

by using so many actors to play one part, the audience was able to see Kes reflecting on his own past and actions through various points in his life.

How many times do we pause and think back to the different pivotal moments which resulted in who and what we are today?

I think the play reflected that well, and I enjoyed being a part of it.
